Podcasting Services -- FAQs

Here are some questions you might ask about our services -- and the answers:

  1. Why should I podcast? Podcasting is a wonderful way to complement your ongoing communications efforts. You can create compelling content and share it easily with the media, clients, potential clients and other key audiences.
  2. It is expensive? Our services are designed to be high quality and cost-effective. Please contact us for further details.
  3. What if I don't have IT support? fkc newsmaker interviews is designed to be a soup-to-nuts service. From conception to publishing of the podcast on this site, you only have to know how to pick up a telephone and speak. (If you want to link the podcast to your own website and send out e-mails, of course you'll need to have those skills.)
  4. What's the difference between a custom podcast and an fkc newsmaker interview? An fkc newsmaker interview has a required format and length. It is either 10 or 15 min. and is an interview show. The music and other details are chosen for you. It is also hosted on our site. In contrast, a custom podcast can be anything your imagination can come up with. We can help you develop these and participate in any number of areas you request: recording, on-air, editing, mastering. These podcasts shows have numerous episodes. They must be hosted on your own servers.
  5. How long will you host the podcasts? The podcasts will be hosted for 6 months. If you require longer, we may be able to accomodate that.
  6. Can I have a copy of the podcast itself? Absolutely, it's yours. If you like, you can burn your podcasts on audio CDs and send them out for marketing purposes.
  7. What if I prefer to host my fkc newsmaker interviews podcast on my own server? That's perfectly fine.
  8. Do I get unlimited bandwidth if you host it? No. We can only provide you with reasonable bandwidth, up to 5,000 downloads per month, per client. If you are going to exceed that, we can discuss alternative hosting solutions.
  9. I don't have a broadcast voice. Can I do this? Sure. You'll be interviewed just like any newsmaker. Not everyone sounds like a professional broadcaster. This is not a problem.
  10. How are interviews conducted? They are conducted over a landline phone. No cell phones, please. If you wish to do an in-person interview, we will accommodate this if possible. However, travel costs will be incurred.
  11. Is the audio quality good? Quite good. Let your ear be the judge. Please listen to our talking communications with farrell kramer podcast. All those episodes were done over the telephone.
  12. What encoding do you use for your MP3s? We use 64Kbps, 22.05Hz, which is fairly standard for podcast talk shows. Music podcasts tend to use a higher 128 Kbps, 44.1 Hz, which is considered CD quality. However, this makes the podcast files much larger -- with longer download times. For the spoken word, it is very difficult for the untrained ear to tell the difference between the two.
  13. Do you use Skype for phone interviews? No. We use normal telephone lines and a device called a digital hybrid. This, we believe, produces better quality audio. Radio stations use similar devices.
  14. How do you choose questions for the interview? You can either send them in yourself or we will develop them from your news release, product brochure or other materials.
