New CNBC Site Launched ... Kinda

I read the full-page ad in The New York Times this morning and heard the plugs for the new site on the network, so with great anticipation I went to visit CNBC's new Web site...

Here's what I got:

"Page Not Found."  This was all I saw for awhile this morning, violating a critical rule of online communications:  If you send people somewhere on the Web, make sure it works.

I'm not sure how long this error page was up or whether it was simply the result of too many people trying to access the site at once.  Somewhere after 12:30 p.m. Eastern, I was finally able to get into CNBC.com.

The new site looks sharp and offers a lot of information and streaming video, which is exciting.  This is important, as Web-based video is probably the most compelling media format available on the net.  Combined with CNBC's strong newsgathering and compelling broadcast presentation, CNBC.com could become an important business news destination.

In the interests of fairness, I wanted to put up a screen shot of the site in action.  Alas, when I went back at 1 p.m. to do another screen capture, all I got was "Page Not Found."

So in summary, CNBC.com is certainly worth a visit.  If it works...
